Rotary is an international organisation that currently has 1.4 million members worldwide.  Its stated causes range from ending polio to promoting peace.

The 21st century Rotary club is for all genders and has moved on from a strict adherence to formal ‘stuffy’ structures that some may associate with it.  Membership is open to anyone aged 18 and over.

Willaston & South Wirral Rotary Club is your local branch of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland.  Although there is every opportunity to be involved with global and national programmes, the club’s efforts are predominantly focussed on raising money for local charities and carrying out work in the community, whilst also enjoying a good social calendar.

Recent fund raising activities have included quizzes and a tea dance in the Memorial Hall, regularly setting up a second-hand book sale on the village green and, of course, the annual Christmas lights switch-on with Santa’s sleigh street collections.

A recent community-based initiative has been establishing and maintaining the planters located at the village signs.

Willaston and South Wirral Rotary Club supports at least two nominated charities each year.  On a national and international scale, it has been actively involved with global programmes to eradicate polio and provide relief to Ukraine.

Social activities include wine tastings, BBQ’s and ‘safari dinners’.  There have also been visits to local places of interest including the National Waterways Museum and various events for club members including a murder mystery evening and croquet matches.
