Christmas Lights Appeal

In 2018, WR&CS launched an appeal for new Christmas Lights to go on the beech tree on the village Green by setting up a sub-group that actively involved the wider community.  The existing lights had reached the end of their useful life and were no longer safe to use.  The tree had also outgrown them so that they only reached half way up the tree.

The appeal aimed to raise a minimum of £14,000 to cover the cost of the lights and over seven months raised a spectacular £24,042.   For a summary of how the money was raised, please click here. This enabled us to buy more lights than we originally hoped, plus pay for extra such as insurance and electricity over the years to come.   The money will be kept in a separate account and ringfenced so that it is only used for the lights and associated costs.

The lights are lit up for the first time on 3rd December 2018.
